For the second-straight season, the Legend Car Dirt Nationals will take place at North Carolina’s Fayetteville Motor Speedway (FMS), November 9-11. FMS joins Tri-City Speedway, 81 Speedway, Joplin 66 Speedway, Lawrenceburg Speedway, Elko Speedway, and 141 Speedway as tracks who have hosted the Legend Car Dirt Nationals twice.
In 2022, Ryan Zima (Young Lions), Parker Jones (Semi-Pro), Justin Comer (Masters), and Jake Tretow (Pro) captured their respective Dirt Nationals Championships.
Tretow, an 11-year veteran of U.S. Legend Cars, has not made a start since his 2022 Dirt Nationals Championship, but has confidence he can capture the title again, and become the first Pro Division driver to win back-to-back titles since Johnny Kringas in 2015 and 2016.
“It was amazing to win [Dirt Nationals] last year,” said Tretow. “I’m proud of what we do as the ‘little guys,’ myself and my brother (Nate) against the world. It would mean even more with everything that has happened this year.”
Last year, weather conditions and car count played a role in changing track conditions, presenting challenges for those behind the wheel. Many of whom were visiting FMS for the very first time.
“In 2022, track conditions changed drastically over the three days we were there, especially on Sunday,” said Tretow. “Being able to adapt the whole weekend was key.”
North Dakota’s Preston Martin enters the weekend as the Pro Division points leader with a 12-point advantage over Iowa’s Michael Weber and 33 points ahead of Jordan Miklas, also from Iowa. In the Masters Division, Minnesota’s Glenn Mitchell commands a 45-point advantage over North Dakota’s Anthony Davenport. Ty Olson, from North Dakota, holds a 15-point lead over Minnesota’s Kyle Vanmil in the Young Lions points standings.
The closest battle to watch is in the Semi-Pro Division. North Dakota’s Evan Hendrickson and New Jersey’s Tanner Jones are tied with 1900 points and tied at 1894 is Tyler Garettson, from Arkansas, and Collin Compson, from North Dakota.
The Legend Car Dirt Nationals concludes the 2023 INEX Racing season, with 10 INEX National Championships already decided following the first three fall national events: Bandolero Nationals, Road Course World Finals, and Asphalt Nationals. Joining Tretow and Zima as previous Dirt Nationals champions racing this weekend are Donovin Wiest (2010-Pro), Jackson Lewis (2016-Young Lions), Ryan Braseth (2017-Young Lions), Jeremy Ott (2020-Pro), and Landen Lewis (2020-Semi-Pro and 2021-Semi-Pro).
Thursday will be a practice-only day, with Friday containing qualifying, heat races, a main event, and the Race of Champions. Championship Saturday will have another round of qualifying and heat races, followed by the Dirt Nationals Championship Features.
