The 2024 INEX Winter Nationals at Citrus County Speedway on Monday, but ended early following a rain shower that moved into the area. Six main features were completed, with the Bandits feature being completed on Tuesday, along with the Round 1 Masters Feature in its entirety.
Jake Bollman appeared to have the Pro Division race under wraps as he comfortably led the field. The laps clicked by with Bollman at the helm until Jensen Jorgensen spun in turn four. Garrett Gumm, who had been running second, challenged Bollman on the outside. Another caution flew on Lap 23 when a bumper became detached, coming to rest near the racing line. During the following restart, Landon Rapp challenged Gumm for second, securing the position and zoned in on Bollman. The field had completed only one lap before TJ DeCaire went around in turn two, drawing the caution once again.
The race entered green-white-checkered territory. Cameron Bolin gave Rapp a shove on the restart but the move didn't grant Rapp the lead. It did however, set Rapp up to be right on Bollman's bumper entering the final lap. Throught turns one and two on the final lap, Rapp nudged Bollman's bumper, sending up the track just enough to move to the inside down the backstretch. Rapp pulled ahead enough to win by half a car length over Bollman, the only lap Bollman didn't lead.
In the Semi-Pro feature, Michael Crafton led the first handful of laps and even held steady as the leader through one restart. Cooper Gaul was beginning to run Crafton down before a second yellow came out when Isaac Kitzmiller and Preston Wrisley spun in turn one. Ayden Christensen entered the leaders picture when he found a faster line around the battling duo of Crafton and Gaul. He'd just crossed the line as the leader when the caution waved once again.
The race suffered series of additional cautions and a delay for precipitation. Christensen was able to retain his lead, holding off a charging Brody Gunter in the closing laps.
Only one caution occured in the Outlaws feature, which otherwise was a battle for second as TJ Moon rocketed away from the field. Moon won the Outlaws Round 1 Feature by over three seconds, with Owen Zacharias finishing second and Carter Erickson in third.
Ryan Zima had control of the Young Lions feature for the first half the race, but lost speed to second-place Max Reaves. Reaves led Lap 15 and didn't look back, despite Zima's best efforts to regain the lead.
This week, the Chargers Division has several new faces behind the wheel of a Legend Car, as several Bandolero drivers have decided to move into the largers Legend Car for 2024. Once of these drivers, Matthew Laprade, was nearly untouchable and won the Chargers Round 1 Feature. In the Beginner Bandoleros, Rhylee Hutchins survived multiple restarts after taking the lead early from Corbin Cannon, to win the Round 1 Feature to win her first-ever Winter Nationals feature.
Winter Nationals continues on Tuesday with the resumption of Round 1, beginning with the full 25-lap Masters Feature, followed by the conclusion of the Bandits Feature. Following those two races will be the regularly scheduled Round 2 events, beginning with any necessary B Mains, then Beginner Bandos, Chargers, Masters, Pro, Outlaws, Young Lions, Semi-Pros, and Bandits. All feature races can be streamed on uslegendcars.tv beginning at approximately 12:30pm ET.
